Individual Strategic Projects

Hyper Braille

Development of a new type of bi-manual handling and user interface for interactive pin-matrix devices for tactile access to graphical screen contents and graphical notations for the blind and those with serious visual impairments.

The intention behind HyperBraille is to enable the blind and those with serious visual impairments to access not just text but also graphical information, so that they have barrier-free access to computers and the Internet. To do this, the joint project is developing a graphics-capable "Braille monitor" and the software required to control and transcribe text and graphics.
